3 Ways to Style a Maxi Dress

By now, y’all already know that I love to show you how to maximize your wardrobe. (If you’re new to this check out my tips in detail here or here.) Do you tend shy away from items in bold prints, patterns, and textures because you feel like you can only wear them once? Do you get rid of something that you’ve worn once because “people have seen you in it already”? If you’ve answered yes to either of these questions then this post is for definitely for you. Check out how I make the most of my wardrobe by styling one maxi dress three different ways below.

Red Leather Jacket x Maxi Dress

Literally my favorite look and the easiest one. A bold color leather jacket is totally unexpected but it works. I wore leopard booties to give the look even more flavor and subtly mix prints. Add some cool sunnies, statement jewelry, and you’re stylin’.

Turtleneck x Maxi Dress

Maxi dresses make the perfect maxi skirts. There are two tricks to styling these to perfection and not looking stuffed or bulky with the dress as your base. The first is to layer an oversized shirt or sweater on top. This gives you a more relaxed look. (My go-to.) The second way is to tuck the top portion of the dress into the bottom. This usually only works if the material is stretchy or a bit larger on top. I opted for an oversized turtleneck, pineapple earrings (for fun), and patent leather combat boots to give it a bit of an edge.

White Button Down x Maxi Dress

Want to dress your maxi up? Add a button down shirt underneath! It gives you a polished look without being too formal. If you want to go bold, a printed button down will take it up a notch. I added cool specs, statement earrings, and bold oxfords to set the tone.

I hope these style tips help you wear your favorite maxi dress now more than ever! Don’t be afraid to take a spring/summer maxi into the fall/winter with these tips as well. If you ran to your closet to find your fave maxi and style it different ways, I’d love to see it!
